Saint Peter’s Nets 12 Golds in MAAC Meet vs Iona

The Saint Peter’s University swimming and diving teams hit the road for their first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) away meet of the season. They faced off against Iona in a matchup that always brings out some nerves and excitement.

Both the men’s and women’s squads lost in overall team scores. But honestly, the individual performances told a more interesting story—12 event victories that really showed off the Peacocks’ talent and grit.

This early-season meet wasn’t just about the scoreboard. It gave the team a solid challenge and some much-needed experience against a respected conference rival.

Highlights from the Women’s Competition

Paige Austin-Burrows led the way for the Saint Peter’s women. She racked up three individual wins and grabbed a silver medal too.

Her strong showing really set the tone for the rest of the team. You could see the squad’s resilience and capability in the pool.

Relay Team Dominance

The women’s 200-yard freestyle relay was a highlight. The Saint Peter’s quartet powered through with a winning time of 1:43.84.

That finish said a lot about the team’s depth and speed. Madison Petricevic and Patch Robinson each picked up two individual wins, making their mark as key contributors this season.

Men’s Team Standout Performances

The men’s squad found a star in Juan Nunez. He dominated the 400-yard individual medley, leading from start to finish.

Nunez finished in 4:07.84, winning by more than eight seconds—pretty impressive. Even though the final team score was 103–191 for Iona, Nunez and several others showed real promise for the meets to come.

Looking Ahead: Sacred Heart University

Next up, the Peacocks head to Sacred Heart University on November 22. They’ll take on Bridgeport, Merrimack, and Sacred Heart itself in both dual and quad meets.

It’s a chance for Saint Peter’s swimmers to build on their recent successes. They’ll also get to try out new strategies against a variety of opponents.

Why These Meets Matter

For a program still carving out its identity in the MAAC, every meet counts. Facing different teams gives athletes crucial race experience and lets coaches tweak training plans.

The team keeps growing closer, too—shared challenges and small victories can do that.

Jersey City Connection

Saint Peter’s University isn’t just another name in the MAAC standings. It’s a big part of the Jersey City community.

Located in one of the state’s most dynamic city districts, the school’s sports programs bring real visibility and pride to the area. Hosting future meets in the city would give local fans a reason to cheer on their home team and celebrate both athletic achievement and community spirit.
