Golden Griffins Shine on Senior Day

Senior Skylar Cornell got things rolling in the 30th minute. She notched her third goal of the season, and doing it on Senior Day just made it sweeter.

Balanced Scoring Attack Defines the Game

Canisius didn’t lean on just one player. Five different Golden Griffins found the back of the net:

  • Skylar Cornell (Senior)
  • Elizabeth Cavanaugh (Junior)
  • Jazmin Herrera (Junior)
  • Azaria Fagan (Sophomore)
  • Emilia Nuttall (Freshman)
  • Junior Jessica Whitaker chipped in with three assists. Fagan tallied both a goal and an assist, stacking up a solid three-point day.

This kind of scoring spread really shows off Canisius’ roster depth and flexibility. It’s not every day you see so many players get on the scoresheet.

Saint Peter’s Effort and Bright Spots

Saint Peter’s may have come up short, but they had their moments. Joana Dias scored her fifth goal of the season early in the second half, cutting the lead to 2-1 and making things interesting for a bit.

She’s definitely been a spark for the Peacocks this year.

    Late Goals Seal the Victory

Canisius answered fast. Emilia Nuttall scored her first collegiate goal off a slick Whitaker free kick, stretching the lead again.

Fagan and Herrera tacked on two more, bringing Canisius to a season-high five goals in one game.

Canisius outshot Saint Peter’s 17-15 and led 7-4 in corner kicks. Redshirt freshman Ally Smith also made her collegiate debut in goal, which adds some nice depth to the keeper spot.

Looking Ahead: The Battle of the Bridge

Canisius wraps up the regular season on October 29. They’ll face Niagara in the always-heated Battle of the Bridge rivalry.

That last game could give the Golden Griffins the push they need before playoffs arrive.
