Despite moments of competitive play in the second contest, NJCU ultimately couldn’t overcome Rowan’s powerful offense and pitching.

Game One: Rowan Showcases Dominant Performance

The opening game of the doubleheader demonstrated why Rowan carries a national ranking, as they delivered a commanding 14-0 shutout against the home team. The visitors displayed excellence in all facets of the game, outhitting NJCU by a substantial 13-4 margin while taking advantage of defensive lapses by the Gothic Knights.

Pitching Matchup Favors Rowan

Rowan’s starting pitcher Mike Shannon was nearly untouchable on the mound, delivering eight scoreless innings of masterful work. Shannon limited NJCU to just three hits while recording eight strikeouts in his dominant outing.

On the opposite side, NJCU’s Dom LaPelosa fought through five innings but ultimately took the loss after surrendering seven runs, though notably only one was earned due to defensive struggles behind him.

The pivotal moment came in the fifth inning when Rowan exploded for eight runs, capitalizing on several defensive miscues by the Gothic Knights. Rowan’s offensive attack was led by Jason Morgan and Joey Bogart, who each collected three hits and drove in multiple runs to fuel the rout.

Game Two: NJCU Shows Fight Despite Defeat

The second contest of the day proved more competitive, with NJCU showing resilience and briefly taking control of the game. After falling behind early, the Gothic Knights rallied to claim a 4-2 advantage in the second inning, generating excitement for the home crowd.

Momentum Shift in Middle Innings

Despite their promising start, NJCU couldn’t maintain the lead as Rowan demonstrated their championship pedigree by mounting a comeback in the fifth inning. The visitors scored multiple runs to regain control, while effectively silencing the Gothic Knights’ offense from the fourth inning onward.

Freshman Collin Elam made his collegiate starting debut for NJCU, working 4.2 innings and allowing six earned runs in a learning experience against high-level competition.

Looking Ahead: Final Home Game and Jersey City Baseball

The Gothic Knights will conclude their home schedule with a non-conference matchup against St. Elizabeth University on April 28. This represents the final opportunity for local baseball fans to catch collegiate action at the Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Complex this season.
