Men’s Soccer Falls at Saint Peter’s in Hard-Fought Road Loss

This weekend, Jersey City buzzed with excitement as Saint Peter’s University’s men’s soccer team snagged a 2-0 win over Canisius College in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) showdown at Jaroschak Field.

Standout forward Tim Strele led the Peacocks, who put on quite a show on both ends of the field. The win gave local fans plenty to cheer about.

Saint Peter’s Strikes Early and Often

Saint Peter’s didn’t waste any time. In the 30th minute, Tim Strele—currently the MAAC’s top scorer—slipped one past the keeper after Davis Barnes danced through defenders and set him up perfectly.

Second-Half Dominance

Just after halftime, Strele struck again. He finished off a sharp pass from Connall McErlain, pushing the score to 2-0.

With that second goal, the Peacocks took control and managed the pace confidently to the final whistle.

Defensive Prowess at Jaroschak Field

Strele may have grabbed the spotlight, but goalkeeper Moritz Conrad quietly anchored the defense. Conrad made three big saves and picked up his third shutout of the season.

Saint Peter’s backline held steady, refusing to let Canisius break through—even though Canisius fired off 14 shots and racked up a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.

Canisius’ Effort Falls Short

Canisius didn’t go down without a fight. Goalkeeper Dom Dominguez kept things close with five saves, and freshman defender Kiryl Dubins played the full match, showing grit right to the end.

Still, Canisius just couldn’t turn their chances into goals, and that made all the difference.

The Road Ahead for Both Teams

Saint Peter’s keeps their momentum rolling as the MAAC season continues. Canisius, now 3-6-1 overall and 1-3-0 in conference play, will try to regroup before facing Quinnipiac on October 11 at the Demske Sports Complex.

Building Local Pride Through Sports

Games like this mean more than just a scoreline for Jersey City. Saint Peter’s represents not only the university, but the city’s pride and competitive spirit.
