Several hundred people showed up to the block party, even though organizers never got permits or official approval. Jersey City Police officers were already there, trying to handle a rowdy crowd and a mess of double-parked cars clogging the streets.

Three more victims were found nearby. Their injuries were less severe—mostly gunshot wounds to arms or legs, or just grazes.
The fifth victim got to the hospital on their own, arriving in a private car. They were also in critical but stable condition.
Hospital staff quickly called the police when the gunshot victim showed up, tying them back to the block party shooting.
