Description

Jersey City Art School (JCAS) is a for-profit collective in downtown Jersey City, designed with the community's residents in mind and using its wealth of artistic resources. Its focus is on growth of the individual artist - those involved can learn new skills, build a portfolio, or just hone their existing technique in an environment that fosters communication, even friendship, with others who have the same interests and talent. As the school expands, it will continue to look to local artists to participate both as students and instructors, further developing the lively arts scene in Jersey City and beyond.

JCAS offers courses in painting, drawing, sculpture, jewelry making, glassblowing and watercolor, as well as weekly figure drawing sessions, writing seminars, and film screenings. All levels of experience are welcome. Studio space is also available for rent in a convenient downtown location.

Weekly Events:

Wednesday Figure Drawing:
1-5-10-20 minute poses. Dry or wet medium... no turpentine. If you arrive late, ring the door bell and walk into the door that is to the left of the entrance. Every Wednesday from 7:30-10:30. Cost is $10.00 - No photography

Sunday Film Forum:
Interested in films outside the mainstream cineplex? Check out the Sunday Night Film Forum. Each week a different off-the-beaten-path film will be screened. Each screening will be followed by a discussion. Hosted by Jersey City writer and filmmaker Yvonne Vairma. Free admission/donations appreciated. Beverages will be provided, but please leave food at the door.
