Two outdoor courts in the newly renovated Hamilton Park opened year round.

The centerpiece of the Hamilton Park neighborhood is the namesake Victorian era park. Nestled in the heart of the neighborhood, the 4.5 acre park is enjoyed by all residents and visitors alike who play tennis and basketball, and for children who delight in the amenities of a modern playground. A dog-run, an iconic gazebo, and a frequenting farmers market are just a few of the highlights of Hamilton Park.

After years of faithful use, Hamilton Park has recently undergone a major multi-million dollar renovation . Improvements to the park include new Victorian style lampposts, benches, new walkways, a dog run, updated playgrounds, landscaping, a fountain, and restoration of the tennis and basketball courts.

HISTORY OF HAMILTON PARK

The Hamilton Park historic district of downtown Jersey City dates back to the late 1800s. The 4.5 acre park was first envisioned by John B. Coles, a flour merchant who served in the New York State Senate. The park was named after Alexander Hamilton, the first Secretary of the Treasury under President George Washington. Alexander Hamilton was shot and killed in nearby Weehawken in a duel with political rival Aaron Burr, Vice-President to Thomas Jefferson.
