Traveling with kids? Not to worry, Jersey City is kid-friendly! We have plenty of playgrounds, parks, a world class science center, and even an an indoor race track. Whatever the weather or season...there are no shortage of things to do in Jersey City.  

Brownstone Diner
 
For fans of Food Network’s hit show "Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives," a not-to-miss stop to start your day is the Brownstone Diner, on Jersey Avenue. Pancakes are the specialty. Serving over 30 different varieties, this neighborhood staple is sure to satisfy any craving.

 

Liberty Science Center
Take a trip toLiberty Science Center in Liberty State Park, where learning is fun! Brave a harnessed walk across a steel girder high above the exhibit floor, face down jet-powered hurricane force winds, crawl through blood vessels, play language karaoke, or create your own tag on the digital graffiti wall, explore the Hudson and connect to wildlife. Learning about energy is fun when you create a ten-foot gushing geyser. Catch a movie on the nation’s largest IMAX dome theater!

Statue of Liberty
Located just 2,000 feet from our shore, the Statue of Liberty is Jersey City’s most popular attraction. Skip the long lines in Manhattan, and take Statue Cruises’ ferry directly from Liberty State Park to both the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.

Junior Ranger Program
 

The on-site program is available to children between 7 and 12 years of age. This family friendly program gives participants an opportunity to learn about one of the world's most famous symbols of freedom. The activities are fun and teach children about the National Park Service, this site and why this National Monument is important to protect and preserve. 

  • The booklet can be obtained at the Liberty Island Information Center or in advance for a head start before you arrive.
  • Upon completion of the booklet, stop at the Information where your booklet will be reviewed by a Park Ranger and the child will receive their Junior Ranger badge.
  • You must be on site to receive the Junior Ranger Badge.

Family Yoga
Come play at Yoga Shunya! Family Yoga is a class for kids and parents to move, stretch, breath, hop like a frog, slither like a snake, and bark like a down-dog. The class uses songs, props, and games to engage and inspire. We finish with a foot rub for all the young participants. Appropriate for ages 2-5. 

Pole Position
An all-new form of entertainment is coming to Jersey City in November 2010, when Pole Position Raceway opens its doors just a mile away from the Statue of Liberty. The state-of-the-art indoor karting center will feature two giant race tracks inside a 75,000 square foot facility and features the fastest electric cars in the United States. 

Playgrounds
Hit the playgrounds! There are wonderful playgrounds located throughout Jersey City…Liberty State Park, Lincoln Park, Hamilton Park, Pershing Field…all have wonderful playgrounds for kids. 

 

Ice Skating
Visiting in the winter months, try your hand at the perfect figure 8. Outdoor ice skating is available at both Newport Skates or at Pershing Field ice rink. 

 

 

Wild At Play
Wild At Play? Looking for the perfect indoor activity… head to wild at play for the 2300 square foot indoor playground. Where kids can be kids.

 

 

Films in Van Vorst Park
All summer long watch movies - alfresco in Van Vorst Park Screenings on Wednesday nights in June and July, beginning at about 8:30 or later depending on sunset. August and September screenings will begin at 8 pm. Free.

 

Hudson River Waterfront
Rent bicycles to ride along the Hudson River Waterfront walkway (18.5 miles) and marvel at the amazing NYC skyline. Whether its an informative tour, or self guided exploration, take in the views and enjoy the ride. Both tandem and kids bicycle's are available for rent.

For an extravagant afternoon, take a sail along the Hudson River with spectacular views of NYC.

 

 

Ferry Rides
For kids who like to be in motion, take a ride to NYC by ferry, explore the amazing vistas by lightrail, or take a trip on the PATH train.
