Civil Unions

New Jersey has taken steps toward offering full equality for same sex couples. In 2006, the New Jersey Supreme Court determined that it is a constitutional right to receive the same state-level benefits, protections and obligations as opposite-sex married couples and the legislation was passes allowing for civil unions.

For those wishing to take advantage of the spectacular backdrop of the NYC skyline, the affordability of luxury, Jersey City is the perfect place to celebrate your commitment to one another. As of July 2011, New York has legalized gay marriage! Jersey City is just 1 mile from lower Manhattan and is accessible by subway, ferry, bus or car. 

Residency
One of the applicants must be a resident of Jersey City.

If applicants are non-residents of New Jersey, the application must be made in the municipality where the ceremony will take place.

License
▪ The license will be issued 72 hours after the application has been made.

▪ The license is valid for 30 days from date of issuance.

▪ The license is valid only in the State of New Jersey.

Fees:
Application fee - $28.00 (cash only)

Ceremony fee - Appointments can be made at the time of application
City Hall and Municipal Court (cash only)

Residents - $52.00

Non-Residents - $72.00

Applicants must provide:
▪ Passport or birth certificate and photo identification

▪ Proof of current address (e.g. driver's license)

▪ Proof of Social Security Number

▪ If an applicant has been previously married, dissolution papers or death certificates must be submitted.

Reaffirmation:

▪ If applying for a Reaffirmation of Civil Union you must bring a certified copy of the previous Civil Union.

Witness:
▪ Must know applicants for at least six months.

▪ Must be over eighteen (18) years old.

▪ Must provide proof of current residence.

Garden State Gay Bowling Organization (GSGBO) is a social, mixed bowling league open to all bowlers, regardless of sex, race, religion or sexual preference. We bowl every Tuesday night (except holidays) at 8 pm from September through May.
