Located in the Historic Downtown district, the Jersey City Museum is a world-class cultural organization with 8 galleries, a collection of over 20,000 works and a theater, gift shop and cafe - the results of an $11 million renovation completed at the end of 2000.
Jersey City is also redeveloping the Powerhouse Arts District in the Historic Downtown. Plans for these 8 blocks of 19th-century former warehouse buildings in downtown Jersey City include a future residential, entertainment and tourism center.
