Journal Square

Named for the Jersey Journal, the well-known daily newspaper at the center of this bustling commercial hub, Journal Square has shopping, entertainment and restaurants galore. The Square is anchored by the large PATH subway station (Journal Square Transportation Center) off Kennedy Boulevard, which provides plenty of parking and a quick and direct connection to midtown and lower Manhattan. The train station sits just across the street from the grand Loews Theater, which opened in 1929 and now hosts classic films and live performances. Just down the road is another restored theater, the Stanley, which now houses the Jehovah's Witnesses Assembly Hall. Tours of this majestic former theater are offered daily to the public.

Journal Square is also an important center of Hudson County's political and community life. The Hudson County Administration Building and County Annex are here, as well as Hudson County Community College and the Jersey City Justice Complex. The historic William Brennan Courthouse on Newark Avenue is a remarkable example of Beaux Arts-style architecture, with a finely-crafted marble interior and unique stained-glass dome. The early-1900s building is open to the public during weekday business hours.

For travelers looking for a hotel in the heart of Jersey City with easy access to New York City via the PATH subway system, the Ramada Limited is a convenient choice.
