The WaterfrontThe Waterfront District is where Jersey City meets the Hudson River... and where the extraordinary views of the New York City skyline simply must be experienced first-hand. Start with a stroll on the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway. Against the stunning backdrop of Manhattan's tall buildings, this remarkable route hugs Jersey City's eastern edge as it winds through parks, piers and open spaces along the Hudson River and Upper New York Bay waterfront. In the Waterfront District, you can check into a luxury hotel and catch a PATH subway train, a ferry or even a water taxi to reach Manhattan in just a few minutes. You'll find fabulous restaurants among the gleaming office towers and apartment buildings that line Washington Boulevard, and a short walk from the PATH subway or light rail station will bring you to excellent shopping at the elegant Newport Mall (where sales tax is just 3%). Thousands of people live, work and play in Newport, an innovative planned community of apartments, condos, shops, offices, restaurants, recreational areas and entertainment facilities with easy access to New York (via the PATH subway) and neighboring towns like Hoboken and Bayonne (via the light rail system). Still, some say the Waterfront is for the birds... two nesting peregrine falcons, that is. A pair of these beautiful (and endangered) birds of prey have raised several broods of chicks atop one of New Jersey's tallest buildings at 101 Hudson Street, Jersey City. You can catch a glimpse of this unusual sight on the Jersey City Peregrine Cam.
